Fundraising and Charity

Matt Houghton from The HQ Coaching Centre in Wirral has organised a number of fundraising activities in 2007 to support the MS Trust. Head Coach Matt and another member of The HQ Coaching Centre team, Richy Kelly, ran the Barcelona Marathon in March after training for over three months. They also organised a football match against a team of actors from Hollyoaks to raise money. To top it all off, Matt took part in a sponsored parachute jump during our ‘Jump in June’ month! Matt said “We’ve had great support from people we work with and are hoping to raise hundreds of pounds for the MS Trust. All in all, the sporty fundraisers raised over £600!

HQ Coaching V Hollyoaks

Cheshire county sports club was the stage for a charity match between HQ Coaching and the popular TV show Hollyoaks. This event was a charity match with all the proceeds from the day going towards ‘HUGS’ a registered charity that works with under privileged school children in Uganda. The event was very well supported and the day as a whole was a huge success.
The team captain for HQ Coaching Matthew Houghton arranged and organised the day’s events, he also contributed alot in the game resulting in him scoring two goals, helping HQ to succeed in the 6-1 success over Holly oaks. Other scorers on the day included a brace from Nathan Mapletoft, Alex Bannon with a bullet like header and Mike Wilde with a nicely taken shot. Although the score line reflects a very one sided game, Hollyoaks did have there chances throughout but were denied by some very good goalkeeper from Josh Collins who stood firm throughout.
The game itself was played with very good spirits with both teams battling for the 90 minutes. The Hollyoaks players were very well supportive of the event, and also offered photographs and the signing of autographs for large numbers of fans supporting the event.
HQ Coaching would like to thank everyone who contributed throughout the day.

Hollyoaks V The HQ Coaching Centre

Actors from C4 Chester Soap Hollyoak’s are taking part in a Charity football match against football coaches from The HQ Coaching Centre. The match is being played at Cheshire County Sports Club in Upton on 18th April, Kick Off 2.00pm.

It is the fourth time in as many years this fixture has been played but the first time it’s been played in Chester. Hollyoaks are yet to win although last year was close as it went to penalties.  The money is being raised for HUGS (Helping Uganda Schools) some of the football coaches who are playing will be travelling with the charity later this year to help dis-advantaged school children in Uganda.

We would advise you to get there early as last years match attracted over 800 spectators, it may have been because the Hollyoaks actors posed for photographs after the match.

Helping to raise funds for Uganda to build new schools

HUGS is a UK registered charity which started in 1995 and has raised £300,000 to assist local leaders in rural Uganda to build their own schools and to create opportunities where they would not otherwise exist.The schools HUGS support have helped several thousand children go to primary or secondary school but the real focus of our work is;

At Kagoma, near Mubende we are working with the Kagoma Education Development Organisation and the St. Zoe’s School leadership team. St. Zoe’s with nearly 500 children and has been achieving some of the best school results in the region.

At the Good Shepherd School in Fort Portal, our partners are the Banyatereza Sisters who work in Rwanda, Uganda and Kenya. Here HUGS have helped to build the first and only school in the west of Uganda for children with special needs. We have 50 children attending the Good Shepherd School.

Over the years we have also been able to help schools at Makenke near Kampla, at Hoima and at Jinja

Our long term aims are to focus on the first two and work with the local teams to make these schools among the best in the country. We want to be able to provide strong vocational programmes for the children so that we cover both academic and non academic needs. At Fort Portal we hope to be able to make the school a centre of excellence and a resource for outreach to the wider Toro region. Children with learning disability are so often completely ignored in many parts of the world and Uganda is no exception.

Sport is really important to children in Africa and is a great help in developing team work skills. We are planning to provide a range of sport opportunities in both Good Shepherd and at St Zoes with the opportunity for teams to be formed and to compete with other schools in the area. Our first sports field will provide both football and netball for the children at Good Shepherd

Our next trip that will see three of the HQ Coaching team travel will be in October 2010.
