Life coaching is a practice that empowers people to identify and achieve their goals. A Life Coach will assist you to move from where you are now where you want to be, creating a supportive role during the transitional phases in life. For some people it's about finding balance and Life coaching can appear in different stages of peoples lives, depending on their goals and the transitions they are making.
Who Do We Help?
Age 11 : The transition from primary school to secondary school is a major change in a child's life as it's the transfer from being the oldest to being the youngest and were children will experience making decisions for themselves. They have to adapt to more rules and responsibility and the fear of change can manifest in this area. Life coaching helps by guiding young people through a process of goal setting and creates structures that not only stops them from feeling overwhelmed but will provide the mind tool they can use right through to their adult life. They will learn to focus on solutions rather than problems which in turn will increase confidence.
Age 13 : During puberty, hormones increase and young people begin to feel more self conscious. They become very self orientated and often display more exaggerated behaviour. This is a very important phase were children are heavily influenced by other people. A Life Coach will raise awareness regarding the differences between a good role model and a bad role model, building increased awareness around emotional intelligence and integrity. Life coaching will also offer a boost of self esteem and reassurance to help those young people who feel ‘a little out of place’.
Ages 15-16 : Trying to make a decision about a career and thoughts about stepping into the adult world can be daunting and develop fears around making mistakes or wrong choices. A Life Coach helps to identify strengths and passions and assists in finding a career that is best suited to the individual. If they simply do not know what career would really excite them, then it may be worth while spending some time exploring how they want to feel in a job. This approach will also assists with the connection between school and work. Helping to create a link between the two and making sure they are ready for that transition.
Ages 16-19 : This phase in a young person’s life see’s an increase in responsibilities such as finding a job, working and maybe thoughts of leaving home. The change from a school mindset to a career mind is a big jump and often requires a lot support but unfortunately this is where the majority of support from others is reduced. A Life Coach will assist the young person to take a look at their current job or training and find out what it is they really want. Everyone has the opportunity to choose their own career path and to change it if their current one is not fulfilling them. Remember we spend a third of our lives working so Life Coaching will help to choose a career that is right.
Adults (Young Mums) : Becoming a mother changes your life dramatically both at home and work. A Life coach can help in several ways by increasing confidence in parenting skills, raising awareness of the different dynamics within a family and improving listening skills. With help from a Life Coach parents will also learn how to deal with challenging behaviour and the importance of time management and find a way to balance work and home life, whilst also finding time for themselves.
