The Project

HQ has spent many years travelling to Cape Town, South Africa promoting sport in over 20 primary and secondary schools. Over the years we have built up a good rapport with our partner schools and together our project ‘Engage For South Africa’ has gone from strength to strength.

Each year UK volunteers gain so much by being part of the project and each year are reluctant when the time comes to leave Cape Town.

All HQ staff and volunteers return knowing they have gained so much from their experience and it can only enhance opportunities to succeed in their chosen profession.

Volunteer for this project and be a part of activities that are helping to provide safe heavens and development opportunities for vulnerable and disadvantaged children.

Why The Project Needs You

As a HQ Voluntary Sports Coach or Teacher you will assist in one of the many poverty stricken schools in and around Kuils River and Mitchells Plain. With class sizes ranging from 40 – 70 there are no shortage of pupils that want to be taught and coached by English staff and volunteers.

By delivering our Engage For South Africa coaching sessions we try to engage as many pupils as possible at each school we visit. During each 10-day visit we work with over 5000 children.

Project Location

Cape Town, with its crystal blue waters resting under the shadow of the magnificent Table Mountain, is considered to be one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Like many cities Cape Town houses some of the richest as well as some of the poorest communities in South Africa. The project works in a number of townships where there is a melting pot of people who are facing issues such as high unemployment, health issues and crippling poverty.

For the entire stay we are based at schools in Kuils River and Hermanus Bay.

Both schools have excellent accommodation and all meals are provided by the schools.
